Destinations Covered

Delhi
India’s capital is where your journey begins and ends. The Delhi city tour covers Qutub Minar, the 12th-century sandstone minaret; UNESCO-listed Humayun’s Tomb, the Mughal garden tomb that inspired the Taj Mahal; the Red Fort, Shah Jahan’s 17th-century seat of power; and an evening rickshaw ride through Old Delhi’s Chandni Chowk.

Set in the Aravalli hills of Rajasthan, Sariska Tiger Reserve is one of India’s lesser-visited and most rugged tiger safari destinations, with rocky terrain, dry scrub forest and ancient temples within the reserve boundary. Restocked with tigers relocated from Ranthambore, the park is steadily rebuilding its population, alongside leopards, striped hyenas, sambar, chital and good birdlife.

Jaipur, known as The Pink City and capital of Rajasthan, is one of the most culturally rich destinations on the Golden Triangle. Its heritage trail covers Amber Fort, the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), the Royal City Palace and Jantar Mantar, the 18th-century astronomical observatory. Jaipur is also home to Jhalana Leopard Reserve, a compact scrub-forest reserve on the edge of the city where guests can safari straight from their hotel and is one of the few leopard safari in India experiences that needs no separate lodge stay.
Set in eastern Rajasthan, Ranthambore is one of the prime destinations for a wildlife safari in India, where rugged hills, dry deciduous forest and ancient ruins create one of the country’s most visually striking tiger landscapes. Its scenic lakes, namely Padam Talao, Malik Talao and Raj Bagh Talao are some of the best places to see tigers, while the 10th-century Ranthambore Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, overlooks the reserve.

Keoladeo Ghana National Park in Bharatpur is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Asia’s most celebrated bird sanctuaries. Once a Maharaja’s duck-shooting reserve, it now protects over 370 bird species across wetland, grassland and woodland habitats, best explored by cycle rickshaw or on foot. Winter months bring extraordinary concentrations of migratory waterfowl from Central Asia and Siberia.

Agra is home to one of the world’s most extraordinary monuments, the Taj Mahal which was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as a monument to love. It is best experienced at sunrise, when the white marble shifts from amber to brilliant white in the morning light. Agra Fort, the great red sandstone Mughal citadel on the Yamuna riverbank, Mehtab Bagh’s reflected sunset view of the Taj, and a stop at the abandoned Mughal capital of Fatehpur Sikri complete one of the most remarkable legs of any India itinerary.

My 10-day safari covering 4 national parks was very well planned and organised by Jungle Revives. I was worried we might not see any tigers, but we had multiple sightings — especially in Jim Corbett and Kanha. The naturalists were experienced, all stays comfortable and the entire trip went smoothly. Special thanks to Shishir for always being available with prompt responses to every query throughout the trip.
