It covers the step-by-step process and all the important things to know before embarking on your safari adventure.
Home of the Barasingha
The Hard Ground Barasingha (Swamp Deer) is the crown jewel of Kanha and the State Animal of Madhya Pradesh. Found only in Central India, this rare deer was once on the brink of extinction, but decades of dedicated conservation have made Kanha its greatest success story. Today, spotting a Barasingha grazing across Kanha's meadows is one of the park's most special experiences.
Iconic Tiger Reserve
Kanha stands among the top popular wildlife destinations in India. It offers outstanding opportunities to enjoy a tiger safari tour in Kanha, with chances to spot the majestic Bengal Tiger, Leopards, Wild Dogs and many other fascinating species.
Rich Wildlife & Breathtaking Landscapes
From endless sal forests and bamboo groves to vast open meadows, this park is home to one of India's most spectacular wildlife landscapes. These diverse habitats support an incredible variety of species, including the Bengal Tiger, Barasingha (Swamp Deer), Gaur, Wild Dogs, Leopards and over 300 bird species, making every safari a unique experience.
A Global Conservation Success
Kanha is internationally recognised as a benchmark for wildlife conservation. Its remarkable recovery of the Hard Ground Barasingha is regarded as one of India's greatest conservation achievements, inspiring wildlife managers and protected areas across the world.
Perfect Central India Circuit
Extend your journey by combining Kanha with Bandhavgarh National Park, Pench National Park, Satpura National Park or Panna National Park to experience the very best of Central India's wildlife.
Inspiration Behind The Jungle Book
The landscapes of this park are widely believed to have inspired Rudyard Kipling's timeless classic, The Jungle Book. Walking through its towering sal forests, open meadows and dense bamboo groves, it's easy to imagine the world of Mowgli, Baloo and Bagheera, making every safari feel like a journey through one of literature's most iconic wilderness stories.
Explore Every Zone
Kanha Zone
The park's namesake zone is known for its vast meadows, excellent wildlife sightings and beautiful landscapes. It is one of the most sought-after zones for both first-time visitors and wildlife photographers.
Kisli Zone
One of the oldest and most scenic areas of the park, Kisli Zone is famous for its dense sal forests, thriving herbivore populations and regular tiger movement.
Mukki Zone
Located in the southern part of the reserve, Mukki Zone is highly regarded for tiger sightings, rich biodiversity and excellent wildlife photography opportunities.
Sarhi Zone
A quieter zone with fewer safari vehicles, Sarhi offers a peaceful safari experience through dense forests and open grasslands, making it ideal for birdwatchers and those seeking a more tranquil wilderness experience.

FAQs
The best time to visit Kanha National Park is from October to June. Winter offers pleasant weather and lush landscapes, while the summer months (March to June) provide excellent wildlife sightings around water sources.
You can book a Kanha safari online through the official Forest Department booking portal. However, since safari permits are limited, zone availability changes quickly, and booking rules can sometimes be confusing, many travellers prefer booking through an experienced wildlife tour operator. A tour operator can assist with safari permits (subject to availability), accommodation, transfers, and complete itinerary planning, making the entire process smooth and hassle-free.
