Why Choose Western Ghats Birding Tour

Best Time to Visit

Destinations Covered

Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, Mysore
The journey of your Western Ghats birding tour in India begins on the calm backwaters of the Cauvery River. Unlike the usual bird walks, you’ll be gliding quietly through narrow channels where Painted Storks, Spot-billed Pelicans and Black-headed Ibises nest just a few metres away. Kingfishers dart between overhanging branches while crocodiles bask silently along the banks, completely unfazed by passing boats. This destination is the perfect start to your tour, allowing you to settle into the rhythm of early mornings with slow and rewarding birdwatching.
As you enter Masinagudi, the landscape transitions from wetlands to dry deciduous forests, creating an entirely different birding experience from your previous destination. Here, every birding drive can surprise you. One moment you’re watching a Grey Hornbill feeding quietly in a fig tree, and the next an elephant herd crosses the track ahead. It is this unpredictability that makes Masinagudi an exciting birdwatching spot on an India birding safari in the western ghats.
Kotagiri is where the Western Ghats begin to reveal their true magic. Morning walks through cool shola forests are accompanied by birdsong rather than conversation. With our guided bird photography tour in Western Ghats, you will be accompanied by local guides who know every trail and favourite perch of the Nilgiri Flycatcher, Black-and-orange Flycatcher and Nilgiri Sholakili. Rather than chasing sightings, you’ll spend time observing behaviour, waiting patiently for the perfect photograph and simply enjoying the forest.
There are few places where tea estates and rainforests blend as beautifully as they do in Valparai. Winding mountain roads connect patches of evergreen forest that shelter hornbills, trogons, barbets and countless endemic species. Along the way, you may also encounter Lion-tailed Macaques crossing the canopy or Nilgiri Tahrs grazing on distant slopes. The scenery is spectacular, but it’s the remarkable diversity of wildlife that makes this one of the highlights of a Kerala and Western Ghats birding safari.
This birding destination is located higher in the mountains, where the forests open into rolling grasslands, misty valleys and isolated shola patches unlike anywhere else in South India. Birding here feels wonderfully peaceful with viewpoints offering sweeping mountain landscapes. It is the combination of dramatic scenery and exceptional birdlife that makes Eravikulam one of the most memorable stops on an endemic birdwatching tour in South India.
Birding journey through the Western Ghats is incomplete without Thattekad. It is often regarded as Kerala’s finest bird sanctuary with its evergreen forests alive with movement from sunrise until dusk. This forest has inspired birdwatchers from across the world and across generations. You will be spending time searching for the legendary Sri Lanka Frogmouth, watching a Malabar Trogon emerge from the shadows or listening to the calls of White-bellied Treepies echo through the canopy. It is the perfect finale to your Western Ghats birding tour in India, leaving you with memories that extend far beyond a bird list.

We traveled from Canada to India to celebrate a special event, and Jungle Revives turned it into an unforgettable journey. The team guided us in selecting the perfect reserve and coordinated all transfers effortlessly. The safari itself was amazing - we spotted tigers multiple times. Our guides were experienced and made each drive engaging and exciting. One of the most memorable moments was a stunning birthday dinner set up under the stars, adding a truly special touch to the trip. I highly recommend Jungle Revives!

Joseph Stan, Canada

I am from South Korea, and our group of six booked a safari tour with Jungle Revives. Initially we were unsure — being in a new country with a new operator can feel challenging. But this turned out to be our most memorable and beautifully planned trip to date. Every communication and daily schedule was perfectly coordinated. Mr. Shishir called us every evening to check how our day went — that level of personal attention truly made us feel valued. The accommodations were luxurious and far beyond what we expected.

Ryeom Hajoon, South Korea

For personal reasons, we unfortunately could not travel with Shishir, but I can only recommend the planning process to everyone. He is incredibly professional, responds promptly, and patiently addresses all requests and questions. This way, individual needs and ideas can be implemented.

Ulrike B, France

My 10-day safari covering 4 national parks was very well planned and organised by Jungle Revives. I was worried we might not see any tigers, but we had multiple sightings — especially in Jim Corbett and Kanha. The naturalists were experienced, all stays comfortable and the entire trip went smoothly. Special thanks to Shishir for always being available with prompt responses to every query throughout the trip.

Jenny, United States

After nearly a year of planning, I finally experienced the safari I had been dreaming about — and it was absolutely worth the wait. Mr. Shishir and his team made the entire journey feel effortless. Across Jim Corbett and Bandhavgarh, our group of five spotted 8 tigers along with incredible wildlife and birds. The guides were knowledgeable, respectful toward wildlife and passionate about conservation. Nothing felt rushed — it felt raw, real and deeply connected to nature.

Sam Harward, United States

After planning this trip for quite some time, we finally moved forward with Jungle Revives — and it turned out to be a wonderful decision. Communication was professional, every detail thoughtfully arranged, and small touches like blankets, hot water bags and bird identification books in the jeep made every drive genuinely special. We saw tigers, playful cubs, elephants and a stunning variety of wildlife. A dependable safari company that values communication and attention to detail.
