Real Encounters. Real Wildlife. Real Stories
A 9-Day Wildlife Journey Through Gujarat’s Wild Landscapes
8 Nights / 9 Days (2N Little Rann Of Kutch · 2N Jamnagar · 2N Gir · 1N Velavadar)
Includes 8 guided safaris & Birding
Asiatic Lions, Indian Wild Ass, Blackbuck, Striped Hyena & Migratory Harriers
We put this itinerary together for guests who are interested in a wildlife journey different from the usual tiger safari tours. This Gujarat Wildlife Safari Tour itinerary includes exploring the wild side of Gujarat, both its wildlife and unique bird species. You will be experiencing three completely different ecosystems in nine days, each one chosen because it offers something the other destinations or National Parks can’t. The Little Rann of Kutch is an ancient seabed turned saline desert, strange and beautiful, where the Indian Wild Ass roams grassy patches alongside larks, wheatears and wintering warblers.
From there the trip moves to Jamnagar where you will embark on birding expeditions in Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary and Narara Islands, a marine national park in the Gulf of Kutch which is accessible at low tide. Next destination is Gir National Park, the only place on the planet where you can still see wild Asiatic Lions, before ending the journey in Velavadar’s golden blackbuck grasslands.
Velavadar is where this itinerary earns its name. It hosts one of the largest harrier roosts anywhere in the world, and watching Montagu’s and Pallid Harriers stream in at dusk to settle for the night is not something you’ll easily forget. You will be accompanied by our naturalists, both during game drives and birding sessions. Your naturalists are familiar and experts on all of these landscapes individually, making your journey a rewarding and fruitful experience with thrilling encounters that will stay long with you after your journey ends.
An otherworldly saline desert dotted with grassy patches, home to the Indian Wild Ass Sanctuary. One safari here turns up larks, wheatears, shrikes, sandgrouse and coursers, plus mammal sightings ranging from Nilgai and Chinkara to fox, wolf and jungle cat, with raptors heading to roost at sunset. It is the only place in the world to see the endangered Indian wild ass sub species.
Jamnagar is one of Gujarat’s rewarding birding destinations, with wetlands, coastal habitats and mudflats supporting a rich variety of resident and migratory birds. In This Gujarat Birding and Wildlife Tour you will be exploring Khijadiya Wildlife Sanctuary and the Narara Islands, where flamingos, pelicans, waders, shorebirds and raptors can be spotted, especially during the winter migration season.
Gir National Park is the world’s only home of the wild Asiatic Lion, and the heart of this itinerary. Three safaris through Gir’s dry deciduous forest and scrub give strong chances of spotting lions and leopards, alongside chital, wild boar and raptors like the Changeable Hawk-Eagle and Crested Serpent Eagle.
Also known as Blackbuck National Park, Velavadar’s golden grasslands support healthy populations of Blackbuck, Indian Wolf and Striped Hyena. The park is especially renowned for hosting one of the world’s largest harrier roosts, creating a spectacular sight at dusk. During winter, thousands of harriers gather across the grasslands, making it a must-visit destination for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.
