Starting the Bijrani Zone Safari to Explore the Peacefulness of Nature
The trip started when I left my home early in the morning, and after driving for almost 4+ hours, I reached the busy streets of Ramnagar town. The main road was quite congested with traffic that day, and I was navigating the close cuts and turns to pull out as soon as possible. The day was sunny and bright, and I was getting excited about exploring the jungles.
After battling the traffic for a while, I reached the Bijrani Zone Gate, and my jeep was waiting there for me. I quickly got my permits and other documents checked and was ready to start the trip.
My eyes caught sight of a railing near the Bijrani Zone entry gate, and there were pictures of various wild animals printed on various sections of the railing. It seemed like every image was trying to tell something, a story or a moment of their life.
I admired the good quality imagery over there for a while before I went towards my Safari Jeep and sat there waiting for my driver to arrive and start the journey. Each of those photos was fuelling my excitement for the Bijrani Jeep Safari Trip, where I will be staying inside the Forest Rest House and experience the Jungle from up close.
Quick Facts about the Bijrani Entry Gate
The Bijrani Zone Gate is called the Amdanda Gate and is a testament to the years of history that it has witnessed, right from when the park was established to becoming a mainstream spot for wildlife tourism.
This gate is the starting point from where the safari starts, and every pre-safari check is done here. Once you get the go-ahead from the person in charge over there, you can proceed with the trip to explore the wilderness by yourself or with your loved ones.
Always remember to book a safari jeep that’s from authorized vendors, and it must be a proper off-roader.
The Bijrani Zone Road Always Brings Back Immense Memories
As I started my journey into the Bijrani Zone and the jeep was navigating through the off-road and uneven terrain, I was looking all around with excitement, and a lot of memories from my last time visiting Bijrani in the December 2024 winter season came rushing back to my mind. There is something special about the Jim Corbett Bijrani Zone, which pulls you towards it, no matter if you are a true wildlife and nature fanatic or just a casual wildlife explorer.
As the jeep just drove a little ahead of the main entry gate, I spotted a group of deer running through the bushes on the road’s right side. What luck! Spotting the beautiful deer right at the start of the trip. This sighting made me realize that I was drawing closer to the jungles, and now I was in a region where I had to respect the boundaries of the wilderness and respect those who reside in them.
This was going to be my last stay in the Bijrani Forest Rest House before the monsoon starts. All the FRHs were going to be closed for the rest of the season till the monsoon fades away. So I decided to have a quick getaway to refresh and clear my mind, and it really turned out to be an amazing trip, as you will discover moving ahead.
Spotted a Barking Deer After Driving Ahead for a While
As our Bijrani Jeep Drove for a while on the off-road terrain, I reached a place where I spotted a barking deer on the right side, hiding behind bushes and looking at me with a surprised face. He was alert and was moving very carefully. A few seconds later, it ran away, maybe sensing some danger from the jeep.
The jeep started moving again.
Another thing which you should keep in mind as a precaution is to keep a scarf or face covering with you so that you can stay protected from the dust and pollution that rises while driving on the dry off-roading path.
Crossing the beautiful landscape during the Bijrani Zone Safari
As I was passing through the forests of the Bijrani zone, with dense trees on both sides, I was enjoying the peacefulness tremendously.
At that moment, I forgot all my tensions, and I was just present in the moment, not thinking or stressing over anything. The only thing that was running through my mind was reaching the Bijrani FRH and embarking on the jungle safari journey to spot some of my favourite wild animals and birds.
After driving for a while, I reached a point where there was open land on both sides, and it was completely dry. There was a complete absence of water, and during monsoons, these regions would be flooded, and the road would not even be visible due to waterlogging.
There were some hills present, and they had tall trees coming out of them. The way the landscape looked at that time would be totally different during the monsoon season, as it would be filled with water and bring relief to the animals residing in the forests.
The entire jungle area remains under the control of the Forest Department, who oversee any and every movement of animals to ensure safety and security for both the animals and the humans.
As I was crossing that region with very little water present, my guide told me that it’s often considered the hunting spot for tigers and leopards. The area was very peaceful and we decided to stop there for a while. I was using my binoculars to spot any wild animal, but none were to be found. It was empty there. I then decided to move forward.
Spotted a Sub-Adult Sambar Deer During Bijrani Zone Safari
As I looked towards the other side, I suddenly caught a glimpse of a sub-adult sambar deer looking towards me. The Bijrani zone and all major core zones of the Jim Corbett National Park are full of this sambar deer community, which is often spotted across multiple places.
It’s counted amongst some of the biggest deer found in India. Also, I spotted her mother alongside him as it wasn’t fully grown. The role of a mother sambar deer is to protect her children till the time they are grown into full adults and can take charge of their lives into their hands.
Continuing with the Bijrani Jeep Safari Towards the Forest House
After I had a good spotting experience of the sambar deer, I decided to proceed forward towards the Bijrani Forest House. The biggest benefit of staying at the Forest Rest House is that you can come into the jungle even before the start of your actual safari journey. This allows you to explore the wilderness exclusively, even before the rest of the crowd arrives in peace and calmness.
Then I came to a small water crossing filled with spring water, and that made me realize one thing. The landscape of the Bijrani Zone keeps on changing so frequently, and that’s the actual beauty of the zone.
As I continued moving further into the jungle, the area was getting quieter and peaceful. The FRH was not that far away at this moment. Then I told my driver to stop the jeep at a high altitude point from where I was getting a good 360-degree view of the Bijrani Zone Jungles.
Then, I took out my binoculars and started to look for the presence of any wild animals in the region.
After searching for a while, I saw two elephants standing at a far-off distance. That’s why you must bring good quality binoculars with you, as searching for wild animals takes lots of effort and presence of mind.
As I continued with my wildlife spotting in the Bijrani Zone jungles, I saw a few more female sambar deer. They were standing there and being alert. They always stay in groups, and their alarm calls are the most accurate ones.
After Enjoying The Amazing Wildlife Moments, I Decided To Move Ahead
I finally decided to proceed toward the Forest rest house, so that I could arrive there on time.
As I crossed a small bridge, I discovered that a female tigress was active in the region. Many other jeeps saw that quite a few time.
This made me excited that maybe I could be another person to spot the tigress during my Bijrani Zone Safari.
After driving for a few more minutes, we reached the Bijrani FRH. On our way to enter the compound, we saw a group of deer grazing nearby. It was such an amazing sight to look at.
Finally, I entered the compound of the Bijrani Forest House which brought an end to the day safari journey.
Every single time I come here, it’s a completely new experience for me. The true beauty of the area and its peacefulness always surprises me. Away from the noise of city life and in the middle of the most famous Bijrani Zone.
Then, my driver parked the jeep, we got down to show our permits and straightaway went into our accommodation.
A very Interesting Fact About the Bijrani FRH
The British constructed it in 1928. Even today, it stands tall as a testament to the high-quality construction that dates back almost a century. It has a total of 6 rooms, and this time I got a corner room.
I quickly settled down, freshened up, and got ready for my latter part of the Bijrani Zone Safari Journey. Then I took my gear and excitement for the safari was at peak. Then, I stepped out of the room for an amazing wildlife trip.
This is Part 1 of the Bijrani Zone Safari trip.
Stay tuned for Part 2 as well. Look out for me exploring the jungles to have some amazing experiences and wildlife spotting.
